Archery - Longbridge competition carries plenty of Clout!
Sep 25 2008 Submitted by Kathy Folkard
THE Warwickshire County Clout Championships were held at the Bowflights Club, Longbridge, Birmingham, in conjunction with the Bowflights Annual One-Way Clout.
It was exceedingly muddy underfoot but conditions were otherwise good and there were some excellent scores.
Clout involves shooting at a long distance target marked by a flag (180yds for men and 140yds for ladies). Although less popular than standard target or field archery, it is extremely enjoyable.
The results were:
Gents Longbow - 1st Brian Duynstee (Meriden) 99; 2nd Rick Walsgove (Meriden) 57; and 3rd Jack Beck (Beaufort) 48
Gents Recurve - 1st Brian Tustin (Leamington) 158; 2nd Pete Hunnisett (Leamington) 130; and 3rd Stan Ross (Meriden) 94
Gents Barebow - 1st Peter Davis (Bowflights) 71; 2nd Mick Friend (Meriden) 33; and 3rd James Good (Bowflights) 26
Gents Compound (Unlimited) - 1st Tony Davis (Bowflights) 103
Ladies Longbow - 1st Annamaria Robb (Meriden) 29
Ladies Recurve - 1st Angela Corrie (Leamington) 184; 2nd Angela Cave (Leamington) 120; and 3rd Fran Smith (Bowflights) 80
Ladies Barebow - 1st Ruth Field (Bowflights) 81
Ladies Compound (Unlimited) - 1st Janette Ross (Meriden) 174
Junior Ladies Recurve - 1st Amy Walton (Bowflights) 31
There were a number of good individual performances.
Leamington archers Brian Tustin, Pete Hunnisett, Angela Corrie and Angela Cave, all shooting their first open clout tournament, earned GNAS tassel awards for achieving set scores.
Brian Duynstee (Meriden) beat the County record for Gents longbow by a substantial 24 points, and Janette Ross(Meriden) came within 3 points of the existing ladies compound record.
