LAKESIDE St John’s Nick Bakewell put in a stunning performance to quell a resilient Queslett in the second round of the Coronation Cup.
On 20 minutes Bakewell put in a teasing cross which was fumbled by the ‘keeper, allowing Matt Gaskin to nip in and prod the ball into the net.
On the stroke of half-time Queslett levelled. Omar Bangura went on a mazy run, cut in and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top left-hand corner.
The game was decided early in the second period when Bakewell latched on to a loose ball and from 20 yards out flicked it up and volleyed in to give Lakeside a 2-1 win.
Star, without a league win in Premier One, came out 3-2 winners against previously unbeaten Court Celtic – and after going one behind to an Andrew Goodyer strike.
Star then went 3-1 up with goals from Ryan Taylor and a John Carroll brace before the break.
Tom Rippington pulled one back for Celtic, who then penned Star into their own half but could not grab the leveller.
Rowood and Moor Lane battled out a 1-1 draw in Premier One. Stephen Bevan put Rowood ahead before Russell Jones levelled.
A Carl Yates double helped Arden Athletic extend their lead at the top of Division One. James Ward and Jim Browning added further goals to give them a 4-0 win over Water Orton.
Joe Yarnold smashed a hat-trick in Moseley Village’s 5-0 win at Warwick Athletic. Craig Deacon and Joe O’Regan also bagged a goal apiece.
Castle Green kept the pressure on Alliance Two leaders Coleshill Town Colts with their 5-2 win over Thurlestone. Andrew Grady hit a hat-trick, with Thomas McGeever and Andrew Freeman adding to the tally. Gibson and Julian Young responded for Thurlestone.
