Unseeded German Sabine Lisicki beat Daniela Hantuchova in the final of the AEGON Classic in Birmingham, overcoming the fourth seed 6-3 6-2.

The final at Edgbaston Priory was originally scheduled for Sunday but was moved to Monday after constant rain ended any hope of play.

Lisicki, currently ranked number 100 in the world, had previously beaten third seed Shuai Peng of China to reach the final and was not overawed by her more experienced Slovakian opponent

She broke the fourth seed once in the first set and twice more in the second to secure an impressive win.

The victory means Lisicki, 21, has now won two events on the WTA tour and she will now be targeting a good run at Wimbledon where she reached the quarter-finals in 2009.

Monday's match was again delayed – but this time due to congestion at the turnstiles as tennis fans flocked to take advantage of the cut price admission at Sir Harry's Road.
