Tottenham get just the boost they need ahead of new season

Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe admits he is desperate to start the new season and show the club his best is yet to come.

Defoe feels he has still to produce his best form since he rejoined in January.

He started just six league games following his £15m move from Portsmouth after he picked up a foot injury which kept him on the sidelines for three months.

But the England striker has now made a full recovery.

Defoe, who enjoyed a fourweek break after scoring twice for England in the World Cup Cup qualifier against Andorra, said: "That rest was more than enough for me.

"I was injured towards the end of last season, out for 11 weeks and I missed a lot of games, so it would have been different for the international lads who played the full season, but for me it was fine and I'm ready to go.

"I always look forward to pre-season, coming in and training with the lads and having the banter with them. You miss that when you are away and it's great to see them all again.

"I'll come back feeling really good, raring to go again and hopefully have a really big season."
