Danish wonderkid Christian Eriksen says he turned down the chance to sign for Manchester City.

The midfielder, who helped Ajax win the Eredivisie title last season, claims big-spending City were keen to sign him from Ajax in the summer, but says he does not want to move to a big club to be a substitute.

“My agent told me about interest from Manchester City, but it is nothing I thought about,” the 19-year-old told Sky Sports.

“There is no point moving to a club where I will sit on the bench. If I moved to City there would be a big risk.”
