“It’s the club who found him, rather than myself but I’ve been able to research him since his name came up.
“The major research was done before the transfer window and my time at the club.
“He was a target a while ago so I’ve gone over that ground and certainly as a player he would help us out and give us a chance in the last 16 or so games but there is a lot of water to pass under the bridge before I can say whether the player will sign or not.
“He’s come onto the radar because of the injuries to Chris Brunt and Zoltan Gera. Losing two players who were earmarked for wide positions left us short of players for that position.
“The deal needs to be struck is with the club and the player. I don’t think that it will necessarily be of any significance that Zoltan (Gera) or Marton (Fulop) are Hungarian as he already speaks perfect English.”
Liam Ridgewell also remains Hodgson’s wishlist, with talks continuing between Albion and Blues.
Albion pursuit of Huszti does not affect Albion’s desire to sign Ridgewell.
“He is a wide midfield player-cum-attacking midfielder, whereas Liam Ridgewell is a left-sided defender,” added Hodgson.
“I was under the impression we’d made a final offer (for Ridgewell) but I know Birmingham are still in dialogue with Dan (Ashworth).
“Whether we make another offer I don’t know but I was under the impression that the offer we made was the final one but who knows? I’m can’t answer that.
“It would be nice if a deal could be done, if not then that’s ok too.”
Hodgson would also like to sign a striker, but admits it’s not a priority.
“We are looking for a striker to drop onto our lap but the further the transfer window goes on the less likely that is to happen,” added Hodgson.
“We haven’t switched off the phones but it’s not a frantic search either.
“It would have to be the right type and, like Huszti, a player who could help us and stand a chance of playing.
“That’s not an easy thing to do because the core of our front players are very good.
“I’m afraid Sky Sports' hopes of getting the total of transfer fees paid for players during January from £29 million to (last year’s total of) £215 million will not be down to us - we won’t be doing a great deal.”
