Tom Ross: Audley Harrison was a disgrace

BOXING was left with about the same credibility as The X-Factor on Saturday after Audley Harrison’s gutless and shameful showing in his world title challenge against David Haye.

I have never in all my years covering boxing, from dinner shows at the Holiday Inn to world title scraps at the NIA, witnessed a fight where the first round ended 0-0, with neither boxer throwing a punch.

Let me declare right away that I am no fan of Harrison. I have said many times in my nightly Sportsbar programme on 1152 am Gold that he looks like a boxer who doesn’t want to be in the ring.

Most of the boxers he has beaten have been journeymen. In fact, I am struggling to remember him fighting a genuine contender. In some of his wins he has been less than convincing.

I said to the Mail’s chief football man Colin Tattum on Saturday that I thought Haye would beat him easily and could not see it going the distance.
