Sonner targets Championship return

DANNY Sonner is determined to help take Walsall back to where they were the last time he was at the club - in the Championship.

Sonner has returned for his second spell at Bescot with the club buoyed by the momentum of promotion from League Two.

On Thursday, the challenges ahead in League One next season will move that much closer when the fixtures are published.

And Sonner reckons Walsall are well equipped to tackle those challenges and return to English football's second tier.

"Last time I was here this club showed it could be comfortable in the Championship," he said. "The spirit we had that year showed what this club can achieve.

"That's what everybody is aiming for. To get back in the Championship.

"I watched Walsall twice last season and they looked a good football side. They played some good stuff, passed the ball and were very entertaining.

"They deserved to go up and looked physically strong as well. So we have a lot to build on."

Experienced midfielder Sonner was manager Richard Money's first signing of the summer, followed swiftly by another player with plenty of miles on the clock, winger Paul Hall.
