Money looking for a strong start

Richard Money

RICHARD Money would like nothing more than to see Walsall's players hit the ground running this season, allowing him to keep his "powder dry" in the transfer market.

Money has some room left for manouevre in his budget and could be active in the transfer market again before the window closes on August 31.

But, this being Walsall, funds are strictly limited of course. Money has a tight budget to stick to and any cash that he shells out now will obviously not be at his disposal later in the season.

So that is an extra reason why he would love to see his team start strongly in the season-opener against Carlisle in the League One opener on Saturday - and then carry it on for the rest of this month.

"I would like to keep my powder dry if possible," Money said. "There might be one player out there that throws himself forward and we bring him in.

"But it would be nice to do no more than that in the short term, then perhaps bring someone in on loan before Christmas.

"Every manager would say the same, you never say never when it comes to signing players. The window doesn't finish until the end of August and you never know what's round the corner. Something might happen.

"But I wouldn't be too unhappy if it didn't. If we can get everyone fit, we have probably got 18 players who are senior enough and have played at this level or above, then four of five promising youngsters underneath that."
