Fox: We'll handle step up in class

Daniel Fox

DANNY Fox is confident that Walsall will handle the step up after promotion.

Walsall travel to Leyton Orient today in search of their first win of the season at the third attempt after two games against likely League One promotion chasers.

And Fox reckons that the Saddlers' reshaped squad has the right blend to cope with the demands of competing at a higher level after promotion.

"It's all about the lads gelling as a team because the gaffer has brought in some new faces," Fox said. "But I think we will handle the step up. The gaffer has brought in a lot of experience and, like last year, we have got a good blend.

"We have gone up a level but last year Carlisle took the same step and had a great season and only just missed out on the play-offs. Hopefully we can emulate them or maybe even better it."

Meanwhile, where Fox's role will mainly be remains to be seen. Will it be at his specialist left-back or further forward on that flank?

"I have started in midfield with Ishmel Demontagnac suspended but I'll play anywhere as long as I'm playing at three o'clock on a Saturday afternoon," Fox said. "It doesn't really affect me.

"But if I'm in midfield I'll be trying to get in the right position and get on the scoresheet a lot more."
