Sonko's on the Money

Edrissa Sonko is challenged by Andrew Crofts

WALSALL are hoping that Edrissa Sonko's match-winning assist at Millwall last Saturday is the first of many for the club.

Summer recruit Sonko took a starring role for the Saddlers in their 2-1 victory at The New Den.

Sent on as a first-half substitute, just two days after returning from international duty with Gambia, he showed his creative qualities by playing a part in both goals, most importantly teeing up the late winner for Troy Deeney.

Sonko still has some adjusting to do after his summer switch to the hurly-burly of English football. But manager Richard Money reckons the player has the right ingredients to make an impact over here.

"We think a lot of Eddie Sonko," Money said. "I like him a lot. He is a lovely lad and a good player.

"He needs a bit of time to adjust to the English game and it can all be a little bit frantic for him sometimes because he likes to move the ball around.

"But we are pleased that he's spent an hour on the pitch at Millwall and he showed his quality by creating that second goal.

"He waited for the right moment to make a pass and put it on a plate for Troy to finish."
