Wasall hoping for Michael Ricketts injury boost

WALSALL striker Michael Ricketts is expected to shrug off a thigh niggle in time to face Northampton in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Ricketts will be restricted to only light training this week but should be fit to face the Cobblers. The 28-year-old is eligible to play in the cup tie despite being on loan from Oldham.

Meanwhile, Peter Sweeney, on loan to Walsall from Stoke, is also available.

The willingness of managers John Sheridan and Tony Pulis respectively to allow the players to take part and become cup-tied, suggests the duo do not figure in their long-term planning.

That is encouraging as Walsall are likely to pursue longer-term deals for the pair after Christmas.
