Richard Money still targeting the play-offs

Richard Money

RICHARD Money insists Walsall will take this week's double setback in their stride - and try to continue to "gatecrash" the play-offs.

Home defeats to Northampton and Brighton have punctured the Saddlers' momentum in League One.

But they remain fifth in the table, right in contention. And the manager's pride in his team's achievements this season is undimmed by this blip.

"This week has given everyone - players, the media, supporters - a reality check," Money said.

"Let's remember where we are and where we have come from.

"We set off this season with the first aim of making sure we are a League One club next season. I think we have done that.

"The second objective is to challenge for the play-offs. I think we have done that. Third objective is to get into the play-offs - and we are still in with a chance.

"I think we are in the midst of a wonderful season. We have gatecrashed the play-offs.

"If you look at the teams in the top half of the table I would have given you every single one of those apart from maybe ourselves and Orient. But we have gatecrashed them and we will continue to try to gatecrash them. The two results at home this week are disappointing and have made it more difficult for us. But it's a reality check. Every Walsall supporter should be proud of their team.

"The players have been fantastic and they will keep on going and try to end the season with a play-offs spot. But, even if we don't, we have had a really good year, a year when we have grown in stature."
