Jimmy Mullen: Ishmel Demontagnac can hit heights

Jimmy Mullen

JIMMY Mullen believes he could have a future Premier League star on his hands in Ishmel Demontagnac.

The former Arsenal and Charlton youngster has been straining at the leash on the bench and when he was finally set loose from the off against Southend last week showed what he could do with a hat-trick of rare quality.

Mullen said: “He played magnificently last week and took his gaols fantastically well.

“He is capable of being anything he wants to be. He is blessed with fantastic ability and pace and I hope the penny drops for his sake because when he plays like he did on Saturday he can be virtually unplayable and in my opinion he could do that in the Premier League.

“He has got everything in the locker to be a top notch player. The one thing he has not had is consistency and good players have it. The challenge is down to him.”

As well as bringing out the best in his flying forward Mullen has also had to contend with Anthony Gerrard, still at Walsall when the transfer window shut, despite having a transfer request granted.

Mullen said: “Anthony Gerrard is a very significant member of the Walsall squad and if he plays to his capabilities he is very important to us but what I can’t afford is anything to get in the way or his thoughts being elsewhere.

“I don’t think that will be the case. I am sure that he knows that the window is closed and he now has to perform at his best for Walsall Football Club because at the end of the day we do pay his wages.

“I have explained the situation to him and I have said to him that if he is not 100 per cent right then he does not play.”
