Jimmy Mullen: We deserved a point against Orient
WALSALL boss Jimmy Mullen rued minor injuries and silly mistakes which cost his side at least a point against Leyton Orient.
The turning point came at the start of the second half when he was forced to bring off skipper Stephen Hughes and no-nonsense centre-back Stephen Roberts – and what had been a tight game suddenly swung a fraction in favour of the visitors.
Mullen said: “I’m disappointed with the result. I thought we did enough to win the game. I’m disappointed for the supporters.
“I’m disappointed that the game panned out the way it did.
“I think the game should at least have finished 0-0. If we weren’t going to score I’m sure we shouldn’t have conceded.
“I will be honest, the way it was panning out I thought it was heading for a 0-0. I am disappointed because we did not defend in the manner we should have done,” added Mullen.
“I accept that for the second goal we were chasing the game but that challenge was a poor decision. The first goal defensively we were turned far too easily and we got what we deserved. At the moment we are too soft.”
Mullen would not blame the injuries and substitutions on the defeat but said: “This is my problem at the moment, I’m bringing players off the field because of soft-tissue injuries and I don’t like doing it but I have to.
“It might weaken us but you expect the players that take the place of those coming off to do an equally good job, but that wasn’t to be the case.
“Two mad moments have cost us the game.”
