Jimmy Mullen unhappy at red card

Jimmy Mullen

MANAGER Jimmy Mullen admitted to feeling hard done-by following his dismissal during Walsall’s 3-1 win over Bristol Rovers.

Mullen is waiting to study the referee’s report this week but believes he must have encroached on the pitch one time too many.

He said: “I can’t say too much until I’ve seen the report but I did speak to the referee about it afterwards and he was fine.

“I’m very passionate about my football and that passion gets a bit high at times but I never swear.

“Obviously the officials will have to report it, so we’ll take it from there.

“My assistant John Schofield quipped that it was when I went on the overlap that really upset them.’’

Mullen couldn’t hide his delight at Walsall’s performance against Rovers.

But he revealed his plans nearly backfired when midfielder Wayne Mattis went down with cramp towards the end.

Mullen added: “I’d made a number of changes after the game against Leyton Orient because I felt things needed freshening up.

“We’d got options in all departments but I’d used up all my substitutes, so it was a question of Wayne having to stay on the pitch.’’
