Walsall: Stephen Roberts fed up of being out in the cold
STEPHEN Roberts has endured a double-dose of frustration during the last month.
It was annoying enough for the Walsall central defender to be sidelined by a knee injury in the approach to the team’s hectic Christmas and New Year programme.
Then, just when he was ready to step up his recovery programme, the big freeze arrived to keep him off the training ground and add a few more days to his wait for first-team contention.
Roberts has not lined up for the Saddlers since the 2-1 defeat at Huddersfield on December 6 due to torn knee-ligaments.
At the turn of the New Year, he had today’s visit to Peterborough United pencilled in for a return to the fray – but then came the cold snap.
With the training pitches at Essington frozen last week, the Saddlers trained instead on the artificial surface next to The Banks’s Stadium.
That surface is not ideal for players just back from injury so Roberts’ return to the first-team group was put back another couple of days.
