Aston Villa Old Stars to face Midlands Football XI

ASTON Villa Old Stars will take on a Midlands Football XI next weekend as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the club’s former players’ association.
The match will take place at 11.30am on Sunday, December 13 at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
Villa’s team is set to feature a host of heroes from yesteryear, including European Cup winners Dennis Mortimer, Tony Morley and Gordon Cowans.
Former greats Bobby Thomson and Charlie Aitken both intend take to the field for cameo appearances towards the end of the match.
The Midlands All-Star XI will be managed by BRMB radio presenter Tom Ross and will feature ex-players from Blues, Albion, Wolves and Walsall.
Admission will be by £5 programme with the proceeds going to Aston Villa Former Players’ Association causes and the Birmingham Mail’s charitable foundation.

The match forms part of the half-century anniversary celebrations of the AVFPA.
There will also be a celebratory dinner on Wednesday, December 16, with around 100 past Villa greats expected to attend.
It will include a three-course meal and takes place in the Holte Suite from 7.30pm.
