Walsall FC: Troy Deeney delighted at striking up a useful partnership with Darren Byfield

TROY Deeney believes he and Darren Byfield are building a valuable understanding up front for Walsall.
Deeney and Byfield have been the preferred front pair of manager Chris Hutchings for most of this season, fending off the competition of Sam Parkin and Alex Nicholls.
They are dovetailing nicely up front and, alongside a purple patch from right winger Steve Jones, have kept the goals flowing for the Saddlers.
“Darren and I are the perfect foil for each other,” Deeney said. “Even though he is 33 he is very fast and I like playing him in. He stretches the game and I try to get on the ball.
“I am not one of those players who just likes to score goals. I am trying to add a bit more quality to my play, like in the Stockport game at home when I set Darren up.
“With Jonah scoring as well we’ve been scoring goals but it’s unfair to say it’s just us three. We couldn’t do anything without the other boys.
“It is a team effort and we’re creating chances and scoring goals and if we can keep doing that we won’t be too far off the play-offs.
“At the start of the season everyone had put us down as not doing anything so for us to be quite close to play-off zone is nice.
“If we can keep a run going and other teams blow up, like MK Dons, who lost three on the trot recently, who knows what might happen?”
