Walsall 2, Plymouth1 - match report
Aug 23 2010 By Paul Marston
WALSALL are on the mend.
A second successive league win and the first victory after two defeats at the Banks’s Stadium suggests they are capable of making a fist of life in League One this season.
They had the courage to bounce back after going behind and produced two quality goals to see off a very capable Plymouth side who opened the campaign with an impressive win at Southampton.
So it was easy to understand manager Chris Hutchings’ smile of satisfaction, particularly as the goals came from two of his new men – striker Reuben Reid, on loan from Albion, and midfielder Paul Marshall, recruited from another Premiership club, Manchester City.
“We showed great character coming back the way we did,” said a delighted Hutchings, referring to the fact that Argyle, fancied to be in the promotion race, had gone in front with a goal of genuine speed in its build-up and breathtaking skill in finishing.
“I thought it was an excellent performance.
“Plymouth are down from the Championship and have some good players and they played their part in a very entertaining game, so all credit to them.
“But the way we passed the ball and created was as good as we have been for a while, so everyone must have gone home happy.”
