West Brom: Why Simon Cox can be West Brom's star man this season

“I spoke to someone at the end of the season who said the Championship is that little bit harder,” he added. “I’m not under pressure from the manager or anyone. I put pressure on myself to succeed and that’s the only pressure I’ll feel.”

Cox is under no illusions that personal targets slip behind those of his new club. With Ishmael Miller likely to miss most of the season, there will be added onus on his presence.

“The aim is to get promoted,” added the ex-Swindon and Reading man.

“My aim is to play as many games as possible and play in a team that gets promotion. I’m someone who likes to be in and around the box, I like scoring goals but also doing my bit for the team in terms of work rate.

“I don’t think there will be a massive step up.

“Goals should come and if I stay in and around the box then I’m sure they will. But the main thing is getting Albion back up.”
