West Brom 2 Man City 1: Chris Lepkowski's big match report and match stats

West Brom are still up for the Carling Cup thanks to yet another comeback at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies fell behind to a Jo goal during the first-half before hitting back through two goals after the break, in the space of as many minutes, from Gianni Zuiverloon and Simon Cox.

It was the least Albion deserved after dominating the first-half – yet going behind – before turning their chances into goals after the break, when it mattered.

Robertos Di Matteo and Mancini picked ‘weaker’ sides.

It was enough to bring the Championship clubs out in force with the scouts’ enclosure resembling something of a global Jamboree. Twelve in all were represented.

Norwich, Ipswich, Bristol City, Coventry, Leeds, Derby, Doncaster, Reading, Millwall, Forest, Hull...all of them checking out potential loanees, with Albion’s goalscorers Zuiverloon and Cox choosing a good night to turn on some form – as perhaps the two most likely to leave during the coming weeks.

They weren’t the only two showing some class, with Somen Tchoyi, Graham Dorrans and Giles Barnes did their prospects no harm either.

It was an industrious display from Di Matteo’s side who, as usual, showed spirit by coming back from a deficit.

It also gave him a useful insight into those who don’t play every week but can be relied on if needed.

Once again there was a determination and presence about Albion.

In the past, the Baggies have been found guilty of being a little brittle mentally and physically.

Not so this side.
