Tony Mowbray sympathetic towards Sheffield Wednesday manager

WEST Bromwich Albion manager Tony Mowbray was full of sympathy for his opposite number Brian Laws after last night's 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

The game looked to be heading for a stalemate until Kevin Phillips's last-gasp winner.

Wednesday must have thought they had earned a valuable point following Jermaine Johnson's controversial sending off, before the former Aston Villa striker popped up with the winner.

Mowbray, a former team-mate of Laws at Middlesbrough, said: "It was such a late winner - it's cruel for them.

"I feel for Brian really and the sending-off incident right in front of us when there was no obvious sending-off offence.

"We had a few opportunities to score, and their goalkeeper made a couple of good saves. But in the end 'Super Kev' has come off the bench and did what he does.

"It wasn't a night for pretty football. We had to use our brains, and I think Kevin did that."
