Jared Hodgkiss wins boss's praise

Jared Hodgkiss

JARED Hodgkiss, who made his first start for 19 games, was praised by Tony Mowbray.

Hodgkiss got the nod over leg injury victim Carl Hoefkens at right-back in the FA Cup quarter-final.

"He's just had a hernia operation," said the manager. "That's his first game.

"He played 60 minutes in the reserves and hasn't done anything for six weeks.

"For him to come back and perform like he did is great credit to the lad.

"He's the type of footballer I want at my club: a hungry, young, athletic football who wants to pass the ball.

"Carl didn't travel with us because we decided it wasn't appropriate. He was 50-50 and I'd rather go with Jared, who was telling me he was 100 per cent, and that's a great attitude."
