Tony Mowbray: Fabio Cappello can restored England's pride

Fabio Capello

TONY Mowbray believes Fabio Capello will restore pride and bring a winning mentality back to the England team.

The Baggies boss shadowed the England coach as part of his Uefa Professional Coaches’ Licence.

The duo first met during a recent League Managers’ Association dinner when they were sat next to each other.

But Mowbray has long admired Capello. He listed Capello as being among his top five European managers in a recent magazine article.

And he feels the Italian will give English football a much-needed injection of hope.

“I sat next to Fabio at the LMA dinner recently and found him very interesting,” said Mowbray.

“I had a chat with him again on Monday and he’s won titles everywhere he’s been.

“He’s a very interesting man, he speaks good English and he seems very simple - everything is very crystalised with him.

“He knows what he wants from his team, he knows in his mind what he expects and demands.

“I think he comes across as being very focussed on the end gain and I like him a lot as an inidividual.

“He’s a very bright and witty man - he’s won titles at Roma, Madrid, Milan, Juventus.

“If he can bring that mentality to England then great.

“The country needs to win again and he will bring that with him hopefully.

“Lets hope he can transmit what he’s done at club level to international level.”
