Roman Bednar is motoring on again

MICHAL Danek is set to be relieved of his chauffeuring duties by Albion team-mate and car buff Roman Bednar.

The Czech striker has revealed he had coerced his compatriot into driving him a round after sending his 'company' Vauxhall Astra back to former club Hearts.

Speaking from Albion's Tegelen hotel, Bednar is now planning to buy a new Audi S5 to reward himself following Albion's promotion.

And that will, no doubt, come as a big relief to Albion's reserve keeper.

Bednar also revea led the next car would not be a Skoda - not that he's too bothered about the cliched jokes connected with the car company, which is now part of the German Volkswagen group.

Asked whether he had bought a new motor, Bednar said: "No, not yet. I think it will be something from Audi but I'm not sure what yet. Maybe an S5, we will see.

"The Astra is back in Scotland. I rented it there and Hearts paid for it so I sent it back and said 'thank you very much'.

"I don't have a car now but I have a personal driver in Michal Danek. He has a Skoda too." Bednar remains one of Albion's jokers, but he takes his football seriously.

The Czech Republic international was a little downbeat yesterday after finding out that Petr Rada had been appointed new national coach.

A new manager ca n normally be a new start but Rada was Karel Bruckner's No.2, which did little for Bendar's mood.

The Albion man felt he was overlooked by Bruckner and does not envisage any change under the new coach, although he aims to give him plenty to think about.

"Maybe Rada will be different but he worked under him so I don't think anything will change for me," he added.
