Best still to come from Jonathan Greening

Jonathan Greening

TONY Mowbray claims Albion fans will see the very best of Jonathan Greening this season.

The Baggies skipper is back in the top flight occupying a central-midfield position, a role he was familiar with for a time at Middlesbrough.

But Mowbray admits he may ask Greening to fill other roles.

And that may include playing on the flanks or even behind the front men. The Baggies boss clearly views his trusted midfielder as a key member of his first-team squad this season.

“I see Jonathan as a top player and a very high-class footballer,” Mowbray said.

“He still wants to learn, as we all do, and I include myself in that. We’ve got a journey to go and we’ve got to learn as we go along.

“The Premier League is somewhere where, yes, we want to be competitive every week and picking up victories along the way.

“In my mind Jonathan brings versatility to my team and I do see him, sometimes this season, playing on the wing and not in centre-midfield, and sometimes behind a striker or in a sitting role where he can dictate the game.

“Ultimately, I hope to have enough players in the squad when the window shuts so we have lots of different options.

“Jonathan is another player with the quality required to play at the level and the quality to play in different positions in our team.

“I’m delighted he’s part of our set-up and I’m sure he’s looking forward to the challenge of the Premier League and hopefully a better season than the one last time we were in this league.”
