Marek Cech is a hero in the making for Tony Mowbray

Marek Cech

TONY Mowbray has picked out Marek Cech as Albion’s potential unsung hero for this season.

The Slovakian international is unlikely to be the club’s headline-grabber but more of a steadying influence.

Cech’s versatility means he will play a big role for the club following his £1.4million summer move from Porto.

And Mowbray has seen encouraging signs from the player during pre-season.

“He’s a good listener and professional,” said Mowbray.

“He’s trying to put in place what I’m asking him to do at the moment.

“Marek was brought to help the left side of the team, whether it be left-back, left-midfielder, high left or inside in midfield.

“He brings a balance and he’s done fine, without setting the heather on fire.

“I believe he will be a good professional and acquisition for us.”

Mowbray continued: “He’s got soft feet and good awareness. He can knit in with what we want to do and where we want to go.

“He is the type of footballer who will keep the ball moving for us and be integral in a team shape and pattern that hopefully functions.

“Let’s hope he is an unsung hero for us but occasionally bursts on and scores some goals.

“He does give us the security of playing in a few positions and the ability to adapt, as all teams need to do at times.”
