Knee injury scan for Neil Clement

NEIL Clement will have a scan later today to determine the extent of his knee injury.

The Baggies defender has been out of action since limping out of the Albion’s final pre-season friendly against Real Mallorca.

Clement will now undergo further tests to establish whether he needs an operation on the knee - although it is not the same knee which caused him so many problems during the previous 18 months.

Tony Mowbray said: “I’d rather be vague on Neil’s situation until after the scan.

“He’s got a problem with his knee - the best case is he’ll be back in the next week or so on the training pitch, working with the rest of the lads. Worst case is that he’ll need an operation.”

Meanwhile, Abdoulaye Meite will start treatment for his calf injury when he returns from international duty with Ivory Coast tomorrow.

James Morrison is also a doubt for Scotland after suffering a knee injury during the game against Bolton.

Mowbray added: “Meite has had a scan. He had to join up with his national side but he’s back tomorrow, he’ll have some treatment and we’re hopeful he will be ready for next Saturday.

“It’s still touch and go. It’s a calf strain so we will wait and see how it heals.

“James is a doubt (for Scotland) as well.

“My initial fear was that he’d suffered damage to his medial ligament in a block challenge during the game but I don’t think he has.

“He was adamant that he wanted to play but he did go away (to join up with Scotland) still with a slight knock.

“They have assessed his injury but I’m sure James will tell George Burley that he wants to play.”
