West Bromwich Albion can get goals, says Roman Bednar

Roman Bednar

ROMAN Bednar believes Albion have enough fire-power in the current squad to ensure Premier League survival.

The Czech striker has scored the club's only goal so far this season, netting from the spot in the Hawthorns' defeat against Everton.

But Bednar has otherwise found himself marginalised due to Albion's five man midfield which has left just one forward role, which has been taken by Ishmael Miller.

Bednar is confident Albion's front men will soon start hitting the back of the net.

"I believe that we can score enough goals for the team," he said.

"It’s early in the season and so far Ishhas played up front on his own and it’s never easy to score goals from that position.

"But he has played very well and caused problems for our opponents and he has had chances.

"He hasn’t managed to take them yet and he was down in the dressing room at Bolton because he knew he had had chances to win the game.

"But he showed last season that he can take chances and when he scores one he could go on and score four or five very quickly.

"That’s the way it goes as a striker and I don’t think he has a problem with taking chances because he did it last season."

Bednar feels that he and Luke Moore, who has yet to play a League game, have a lot to contribute this season.

"Maybe as the season wears on we will play two up front and that will give the strikers even more of a chance," he added.

"It was difficult for Luke last year because he didn’t get many chances and this season he has been injured so it’s not fair to judge him yet.

"He is another one who needs one goal and then he might score a lot.

"And I know I can score goals. In pre-season I missed a few chances and wasn’t very confident but I scored against Mallorca and the confidence came back straight away.

"I got goals for the reserves and scored the penalty against Everton so I feel really sharp and I’m just waiting for my chance."
