Time for West Bromwich Albion to start winning

Tony Mowbray

TONY Mowbray goes into tomorrow’s game against West Ham United warning his side that they will come under immense pressure unless they starting winning soon.

But, while the Baggies may be bottom after three games, Mowbray is refusing to get sucked into panicking just yet.

He is confident they will pick up their first Premier League win sooner rather than later.

“All the games are important but I won’t get carried away with the hysteria about what is right or wrong, whether we can score a goal or not or whether we will win or not,” said the Albion boss.

“Three games is too soon to say because we could be sitting here with six or seven points at a push and asking if we’re going to qualify for Europe.

“I don’t sit here after three games thinking we’re never going to score a goal or win a game.

“I think we have been decent in the games, the players believe they can play in this league and I think we have shown we are more than capable of competing with the three teams we have played.

“We should have no fears about the rest of the season.

“We need a win to move us off the bottom and it will become more of a problem the longer we don’t win.

“I’m not stupid, I can see it becomes a problem. People write about it, the players read it and psychologically it starts to get into their head.

“So the sooner we get a win the sooner people will stop writing about it and the sooner we stick four goals past somebody the sooner people will stop writing that we can’t score goals.

“The longer we go without a win the longer it becomes an issue.”

Mowbray is confident his side will deliver the goods as long as they maintain the standard of their early-season performances.

“We are in the industry of winning games and no manager in history keeps his job if he never wins a match,” he added.

“We have to win a match somewhere along the line but we will win games if the performance levels stay as high it has been – fact.

“If we don’t the performance levels won’t be as high because the players’ confidence won’t be as high.

“If we win 4-0 this week and 3-0 the following week people will stop talking about it and find something else to talk about.”
