Win showed our character - Scott Carson

SCOTT Carson believes Albion’s victory against West Ham underlined the character of Tony Mowbray’s side.

The Baggies took the lead before conceding twice and eventually winning thanks to Chris Brunt’s late winner.

Carson, who turned 23 earlier this month, takes on former club Villa this Sunday.

And he believes Albion’s turnaround in fortunes will stand them in good stead.

“It was an up-and-down game,” said the Cumbrian. “After we scored the first goal we went a bit tense but that’s credit to West Ham.

“We switched off a couple of times and tried to play football in the wrong areas. But there’s a lot of new faces here and we’re gradually gelling together.

“We all dug in, didn’t let our heads drop when we were 2-1 down and hopefully it’s the start of good things to come. Once we got back on terms I felt we handled the game much better in the second half and I was delighted to see Brunty’s shot find the bottom corner for the winner.

“It was really important to get our first win because the later you leave your first win, the more you’re chasing. It’s nice looking at the Premier League table and seeing you don’t need two or three wins to get back into things.”
