West Brom 3 Middlesbrough 0

Robert Koren produced an inspired display to help West Brom move off the bottom of the Barclays Premier League - and drag Gareth Southgate's side further into the relegation mire.

The Slovenian international set up one goal for debutant Marc-Antoine Fortune and scored another himself after Chris Brunt had made an early breakthrough.

It enabled Albion to complete their first ever Premier League double after a 1-0 win at the Riverside Stadium earlier in the season and means Boro have now gone 10 league games without a win.

West Brom fans taunted Southgate with cries of 'you're getting sacked in the morning' and to add to Boro's misery, midfielder Didier Digard was red-carded after 63 minutes for a challenge on Borja Valero.

It might have been a different story had not Boro striker Afonso Alves squandered four good opportunities.

But Albion also posed a constant threat and on loan Arsenal striker Jay Simpson again impressed with his skill, pace and work-rate.

Tony Mowbray's side looked doomed to the drop a month ago and in danger of being cut adrift at the bottom after a 10-game run without a win.

But a hat-trick of home successes against Manchester City, Tottenham and Boro have revived their fortunes.
Brunt put the Baggies in front after only four minutes.

Boro defender Tony McMahon failed to make proper contact with a clearance header from a deep cross by Carl Hoefkens and the ball broke to Brunt.

The former Sheffield Wednesday drilled in a low shot which took a slight deflection off McMahon before flying past Ross Turnbull into the corner of the net.

Boro tried to retaliate and only the woodwork denied Alves an equaliser three minutes later.
