'It is just too close to call' - Tony Mowbray
THE most competitive Premier League of all time is threatening to derail Albion’s January transfer policy, according to Tony Mowbray.
The boss is keen to bring in at least another midfielder and maybe one more striker before the February 2 deadline.
Any further signings are most likely to be temporary arrivals, with just one more domestic loan allowed.
But Mowbray feels the close nature of the top flight may ruin any plans to recruit from the Premier League.
“I think it is half an issue because at the moment we are competing with those teams and it is only the top six who will not feel we are any sort of threat,” said Mowbray, who has already brought in Jay Simpson and Marc-Antoine Fortuné from Arsenal and Nancy this January.
“Until you pick up the phone and ask those managers you never know.
“If someone asked me to loan my players to them and they were in a similar position I would probably say no.
“In years gone by, there may have been a 10 or 12-point gap to a Man City or a Tottenham and they might let you have a decent player to take some points off their rivals.”
Mowbray admits the impact that any new arrivals could have on his squad, not least in midfield.
