West Brom's deal for Youssouf Mulumbu in danger of collapse

Mowbray said: "I hope so. Those conversations are generally not ones I get involved in until I have to.

"I work under a sporting director who spends all day on the phone and he updates me, I give him my opinions, and he either progresses them or stops them.

"We are progressing with a few different things at the moment. Clubs are trying to do business and if things open up, they might do business with us."

Mowbray revealed more about Mulumbu, who represented France at under-21 level before opting for Congo.

"The lad was at the training ground yesterday. The boy has got potential.

"I spoke to Paul Le Guen (PSG boss) earlier in the week.

"Paul likes him as a player.

"He has got Makélélé in front on him and Jérémy Clément in front of him and he doesn't feel as if he is going to get an opportunity because PSG have been suffering a bit the last few years.

"Paul feels he needs to put experienced footballers on the pitch to get PSG where they belong.

"This is a young boy who is hungry. He is not ready to come and play in our team. He will play in our reserves and let's hope we got a footballer somewhere down the line.

"If he signs, he is not someone who is going to impact on our season at this moment."
