West Brom can claw back to safety says Chris Brunt
“It’s the same for any team at the bottom of the league. It’s a tough place to be and nobody wants to be there.
“It’s down to us as a group of lads to turn it around. We’ve got a squad of about 25 players and that’s what we’ve got to get us out of the situation we’re in.
“We’ve still got points to play for, but if we keep defending like we have been we will give ourselves an uphill task.”
Manager Tony Mowbray expressed his gratitude to the supporters for not turning on his side during their 3-1 defeat to Arsenal at The Hawthorns on Tuesday night, despite the side’s galling tendency to keep shooting themselves in the foot, and Brunt echoed Mowbray’s sentiments.
“The fans have been great all season for us,” Brunt added.
“This is as frustrating for us as it is for them because none of us want to go back to the Championship. The fans just need to keep behind us and keep believing.”
n The Football Association will take no further action against Steven Taylor following Newcastle United’s defeat to Manchester United.
Taylor appeared to foul Cristiano Ronaldo in the first-half before following up with another firm challenge on Michael Carrick.
Referee Steve Bennett did book the England Under-21 captain but confirmed to the FA the yellow card was for the second challenge.
The Kent official has reviewed the incident again and while he did tell Soho Square chiefs he would have booked Taylor for the foul on Ronaldo, which would have therefore amounted to a red card, under Fifa regulations, the FA are powerless to change punishments that would involve two yellow cards rather than a single red.
