Anchor man needed to bring best out of West Brom's Valero

TONY Mowbray believes Borja Valero is potentially Albion’s ‘most talented footballer’, who has been held back by a lack of midfield enforcer next to him.

The enigmatic Spaniard has found himself out of the side in recent weeks but Mowbray still values him highly and reassured him over his future.

Albion tried to bring in an experienced defensive midfielder on the last day of the most recent transfer window, having failed with a bid to sign Rangers’ Kevin Thomson in the summer.

The Baggies boss accepts that an anchor man might have made a difference to Borja’s influence and role.

“He’s fine. I’ve had a few good chats with him,” Mowbray told the Birmingham Mail.

“He’s understands the balance of a football team and he has a very intelligent footballing brain.

“I’ve got no fears for Borja. He understands the reasons why he’s on the sidelines at the moment. He’s very talented and there could be an argument to say he’s our most talented footballer.

“His ability and decision-making with the ball is unquestionable.
