West Brom boss refuses to bite back over Lou Macari attack

“I would be the first one to criticise my team if I didn’t think we fought hard enough,” said Mowbray.

“You’ve got to understand that we don’t lose football matches because we don’t fight hard enough.

“We lose matches through defenders making bad decisions or centre forwards missing an opportunity.

“You watch teams all over the world and it’s not about fighting and scrapping. It’s about your talent.

“It’s about decision-making, understanding of the game, recognition of space and a multitude of things.

“One of those things is the ability to compete and whether you get your body in or put your foot into a tackle. But that’s just one of a multitude of things that makes a difference in a football match.

“To people who say it’s all about getting stuck in and winning a scrap, good luck to them if they ever get a job because it isn’t going to take them very far.”
