West Brom boss hints that Luke Moore will leave Albion in the summer

"Sometimes players out of the team, in the eyes of some people, can be a better option even though they’re not out there doing it.

"For instance, if we’re not out there scoring goals, the ones who are not in the team can be seen as great players and ‘why is he not playing?’

"I pick it as I see in training every day or reserve fixtures - not just what the supporters see on a Saturday afternoon."

Mowbray elaborated on his decision to leave Moore at home at the weekend.

"The state of play is that when I picked the squad to travel on Friday, we were always going to play with one striker with midfield players sitting

behind them," Mowbray added.

"It was a question of whether I needed to take three strikers all the way down to Portsmouth knowing I wasn’t going to put three of them on the bench.

"I had a chat with Luke and he understands the situation.

"Jay Simpson and Roman Bednar would have been sat on the bench, although Roman ultimately got injured. I saw Chris Wood as more of a replacement so

I left Luke here rather than drag him all the way down to Portsmouth, put him in a hotel and then stick him in the stand with his tracksuit on.

"He understood that. As I say to them all, there is nothing personal in any decisions made."
