Chris Lepkowski: Why Tony Mowbray is still the man for West Brom
Apr 28 2009 By Chris Lepkowski
In come Dorrans, Menseguez, Mulumbu, Martis. All busting a gut, all giving the team some youthful energy.
It’s made a difference in recent weeks, despite Saturday being the first victory for a while. Dignity and pride has, to some degree, been restored. Passion certainly has.
The tiredness has gone. The players actually give the impression that they want to play for the club. Even Mowbray looks happier.
The key to any footballing operation is continuity. Obviously there are exceptions. For instance, it was fairly clear England could no longer continue with Steve McClaren or that Spurs and Juande Ramos were incompatible.
But the Baggies boss has admitted his mistakes many times – which takes humility for someone working in such an unforgiving environment – and insists he will learn from those. There is more to come from him.
He will start next season more experienced and better for it.
It would be foolish to start again or think someone else can do a better job – let’s face it, they would need another 18 months just to shape their own side.
A club like Albion needs stability.
