West Brom's Jonathan Greening: We’ve finished with pride intact

JONATHAN Greening believes Albion finished the season with their pride intact, despite finishing bottom of the Premier League.

The Baggies were unfortunate not to beat Blackburn in front of a full house at Ewood Park. Greening feels Albion’s display underlined the team’s credentials.

“It was always going to be a difficult game because we were relegated already,” said the skipper. ‘‘We just tried to dictate the tempo on a hot day.

“I had a good chance at the end, Brunty had a volley which produced a great save and we should have won it really.

“There was nothing for us to play for other than pride and I thought we showed a lot of people that we are good enough to play Premier League football and we showed what a good team we are.”

The game was largely disappointing as a spectacle, despite both sets of fans generating an excellent atmosphere.

Home fans wore Tugay masks in honour of their midfielder and Albion followers donned Tony Mowbray masks.

Greening added: “I loved the masks – it was good. We had Super Kev last year. I signed a few gaffers’ masks outside but I had to make sure they were masks – I don’t think he’d let me do that to his own face!”
