Swindon boss backs striker to deliver for West Brom

Simon Cox

West Brom have been reassured that they will not be taking a gamble if their pursuit of Simon Cox proves successful.

The Baggies have had a structured bid amounting to £2million accepted by Swindon for the 22-year-old.

The move is subject to personal terms being agreed and Albion's new manager wanting to sign the player.

Danny Wilson, the Swindon boss, admits Swindon can do little to keep Cox, who scored 32 goals last season.

And he feels the player will have few problems settling into the Championship and will be an asset for whoever takes over the Hawthorns hotseat.

"Talks are still ongoing but I believe at the moment in time there is only one club involved," said Wilson.

"Whether or not we can keep him is another matter.

"Maybe their chairman has had the go-ahead (from the new manager) to do what he’s done, so Coxy is in place by the time he gets in. Who knows?
