Young striker Reuben Reid wants to secure West Bromwich Albion place

“When you’ve got money it’s easier to buy in a player who has already played many games and is proven at that level.

“But if they believe they can get a player for a bargain who they know can develop to be able to play at that level it’s in their best interests to do that.

“It’s good for lads in lower leagues, knowing that there are clubs interested in signing them.

“All the young lads will be looking to develop because we want to be playing first-team football along with all the guys who are already there.

“Hopefully we will develop and get into the team.”

He continued: “It’s hard when you first step into a new changing room because nobody really knows you and you want to find that friendly face.

“But now I’ve settled in there are a few funny guys here – a few funny foreigners.

“With some of the guys it’s a bit tough but you have to just laugh along as if you understand what they’re saying.”

So far, Reid has only figured in Albion’s Carling Cup games, most recently in the 4-3 win against his former club Rotherham on Wednesday.

He hopes to prove to Roberto Di Matteo that he is ready for regular Championship football following a few seasons in the lower leagues.

“The facilities are first class so there is no excuse for not succeeding here as a player,” he added.

“It is going to be interesting to see what role the gaffer sees for me in the team, but I believe I have the ability to play at this level, without a doubt.

“In bringing me here they have obviously seen something that they like, so hopefully they can bring it out in me and I can become the player I want to be.”
