“I’m disappointed Wilshere didn’t accept his hand.
“He wanted to help him get up.
“He’s a fellow colleague but it’s part of the game.
“The sending-off was probably a turning point.
“Just before that we were starting to get on top of them."
Gonzalo Jara made his debut for Albion, producing an excellent display.
The Chilean played at left-back, filling in for injured duo Marek Cech and Joe Mattock.
Di Matteo added: “He was very good.
“He’s an excellent player and there is much more to come from him.
“He’s a player who can cover various positions.
“We’re struggling a little bit on the left side at the moment and he played very well in his first game."
