West Brom distance themselves from Preston Boss claims

West Brom have once again distanced themselves from claims that Alan Irvine rejected the vacant manager’s job during the summer.

The Preston boss was shortlisted for the head coach role, along with Roberto Di Matteo, following Tony Mowbray’s departure in late June.

Initially it looked as if Irvine would get the nod, but Albion opted for the Italian, then at MK Dons.

At the time Irvine was swift to say he turned it down but Albion rubbished those claims.

There is consternation that Irvine has once again spoken about a job which Albion claim he was never offered.

“As people know, West Brom offered me the job,’’ he said. “I thought about it, I was tempted, but decided to stay where I was. I’m perfectly happy with the decision.

“What happened makes no difference to tomorrow’s game. I don’t want to beat West Brom any more than any other team.”
