West Brom: Mulumbu backing for club over country well received locally

YOUSSOUF Mulumbu might have caused a stink in his homeland this week but his comments about wanting to put his international career on hold will have been welcomed at Albion.
The Congo star accused the football federation of taking the national side into oblivion and, even though he stopped short of announcing his retirement from the international scene, he admitted that things would need to change at the very top for him to reconsider.
Baggies No.2 Eddie Newton hopes that the 22-year-old will reconsider his stance, although he admires his dedication to Albions cause. He feels there is more to come from the ex-Paris Saint Germain man.
Its a real statement from Youssouf and one we like to hear in a way, said Newton.
Were sure he doesnt want to walk away from international football because its the biggest accolade.
Youssouf is young, hes still learning the game, he does a very good in front of the back four but he knows there are things he needs to develop, he added.
He has the capability to improve. We are still looking for that little bit more. But its a fine balancing act.
