ROBERTO Di Matteo believes West Brom week in La Manga will be crucial to their progress during the busy winter period.

The Baggies are currently out in Spain making the most of the international break.

The five-day training camp has two aims - to keep Albion ticking over in warmer climes and also to help the team-mates bond off the field.

Di Matteo is without seven of his internationals for the duration but believes its value will only be seen from when the Championship resumes, starting with next week's visit of Bristol City.

"It’s a shame that we have so many players away on international duty but we have brought all the other players away with us – the injured players and everybody else that is available," said Di Matteo.

"We are going to work hard and train but it’s also important that we keep the team spirit going because it can be a vital part of the season if you have a good team spirit.
