West Brom striker Chris Wood hopes to take on England

West Brom striker Chris Wood is hoping for a World Cup date with England in South Africa next summer.

The 17-year-old helped New Zealand qualify for their first World Cup since 1982 thanks to a victory in their play-off second-leg against Bahrain last weekend.

Wood admits the experience was completely over-whelming and he will not be the only Albion man looking forward to a World Cup spot, with Marek Cech (Slovakia), Abdoulaye Meite (Ivory Coast), Gonzalo Jara (Chile) and, most recently, Robert Koren (Slovenia) all potentially involved, as well England's Scott Carson.

"My initial feeling was just amazement at the final whistle," he said.

"We're only the second team in New Zealand history to qualify.

"It's a very big achievement and I'm full of happiness and excitement about going to the World Cup - the biggest international stage in the world.

"Ryan Giggs has never had the opportunity to go to a World Cup and he is one of the best players to have played in the Premier League.

"I'm looking forward to the draw.
