ROBERT Koren is due to find out whether he will need surgery to correct a hernia injury as Albion's injuries and illnesses mount ahead of tomorrow's trip to Sheffield Wednesday.
Jerome Thomas is doubtful with a back strain, with Filipe Teixeira suffering from a thigh injury.
Joe Mattock remains a major doubt with Shelton Martis unwell and Roman Bednar still suffering from flu.
But Koren may well be forced onto the sidelines for a slightly longer period as he awaits further medical advice over a problem which he has been nursing for a while.
"Roko has a hernia problem," said Di Matteo.
"He saw a consultant surgeon so we will know a little bit more soon.
"He saw him just to get a correct assessment of his injury and to see what the procedure is from there.
"He has had it for a little bit but he felt something and then it went away.
"Now it has recurred and the pain is a bit stronger so that’s why we have sent him to a consultant."
Di Matteo added: "Shelton fell ill on Wednesday and we sent him home.
"Roman has been ill for five days.
"He came in this morning and did a bit of training but still doesn’t feel 100 per cent.
"I think it’s just seasonal flu - it’s definitely not swine flu though.
"Joe Mattock will be a major doubt for Saturday.
"He is in pain so it doesn’t look too good.
"Jerome Thomas has a little strain in his back and Teixeira has a thigh problem.
"None of them trained yesterday but we still have a few hours before Saturday’s game."
