Back to square one for Roberto Di Matteo

ROBERTO Di Matteo has conceded Albion will have to ‘start from scratch’ after their six-game unbeaten run came to an end.

The Baggies were defeated last night for the first time since Swansea came to The Hawthorns in October.

Since then Albion had won four, drawn two and scored 17 goals while conceding just four times. And the Italian has yet to confirm whether Scott Carson will be disciplined internally following his sending off.

The goalkeeper was dismissed after head-butting Michael Chopra, but the Baggies head coach said: “I have not seen what happened because the game was developing in the middle of the pitch.

“He’s going to be suspended for three games now but I need to see what happened before I have a conversation with him.

“We would take action if someone has deliberately head-butted someone. We are very disappointed about that and also losing our keeper and captain for three games.

“We dropped off on the first goal, which we shouldn’t have. We should have tackled the player before.

“That was poor defending. In the second half we put pressure on them and played in their half.

“I think we had a few chances to get into the game but the final ball in was not there. The quality on the ball wasn’t as good as we can be.

“We’ll have to start all over again.

“We’re at the point where we had a good run but now we start from scratch again.”
